PALESTINE OF JESUS
A course of Study and Reflection
St. George’s College Jerusalem

This basic course provides the best introduction to the Holy Land, in a 14-day study tour with both academic and devotional aspects. This course has been the most popular and most requested program at St. George’s College Jerusalem through the years. Thousands of first-time visitors to Jerusalem have found it the perfect context for their initial Jerusalem experience.

The PALESTINE OF JESUS course focuses on key elements of the Gospel narrative of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus in the sacred landscape where the story unfolded. course members visit major sites connected with the Gospel accounts: Bethlehem, Nazareth, The Jordan River, the Sea of Galilee, Mount Tabor, the Judean Desert, and others. After focusing on the Galilean ministry of Jesus, the course traces the Passion Narratives through visits to Bethany, the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane and the Church of the Resurrection (Holy Sepulcher), and with a devotional Way of the Cross. The final day of the course celebrates the Resurrection, and the challenge of discipleship with a journey to Emmaus and a festive Eucharist.

Like all St. George’s College Jerusalem courses, The PALESTINE OF JESUS combines study with pilgrimage. Corporate worship in the College Chapel is an integral part of every course. Eucharist at pilgrimage venues and evening prayer at the College are prepared and celebrated with the participation of course members. The College is fully inclusive and ecumenical, and all are invited to participate in College worship. In addition, weekday and Sunday Eucharist may be celebrated with Jerusalem’s Anglican community at St. George’s Cathedral nearby.

St. George’s College Jerusalem has a commitment to adult education in a pilgrimage context, through academic excellence and experiential learning. Lectures at the College with qualified teaching staff are complemented by field excursions throughout the country. Attention to the Bible and to the life and times of Jesus does not distract us from the urgent social and religious issues of our own time. course members visit the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) and the Dome of the Rock in the contexts of paying attention to interfaith issues regarding Judaism and Islam. Most importantly, provision is made for hearing the voices of Palestinians and Israelis as they struggle for justice and peace in their land.
